On Wednesday (January 18), Amla announced the end of a career spanning more than 20 years and including 34,104 runs across formats after deciding not to return to Surrey in the coming summer.
He performed in South Africa on 349 occasions, and AB de Villiers was his co-star on 277 of those instances.

Despite failing to end South Africa’s World Cup drought, Amla and De Villiers excelled in 2012 by assisting the side to the top of the ICC rankings in all three forms of the game.
Amla is a real all-format performer who has scored the third-most runs for South Africa in Tests, one-day internationals, and Twenty20 internationals. Amla also has the sixth-most international hundreds in history with 55.
He is the quickest player to score 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, and 7,000 runs in ODI cricket.
He successfully adapted his tried-and-true method to the T20 format, averaging 30.83 in 164 games while scoring two hundreds, both in the Indian Premier League.
